Cupcakes & Birds
June 26, 2011
My girlfriends and I reunited back in Syracuse yesterday afternoon for a bake off to prep for a baby shower. Leave it to Martha Stewart for some inspiration for these bird cupcakes with toasted coconut flakes as the nest and hand piped buttercream frosting for the birds. A lot of laughs, frosting covered elbows and 195 piped birds later, we had one adorable dessert.
A Friday Fruit Dish
June 3, 2011
The weekend is here and I wanted to share this fruit dish I put together recently. Taking a whole 10 minutes, it was fun, easy and totally photogenic. Spreading nutella and whipped creme on crackers, I topped with a variety of fruits including strawberries, blueberries, kiwis and bananas. It’s the perfect after dinner treat, because even when guests are too stuffed from their meal, there is always room for this small bite.
Have a lovely weekend! x
A Night at the Ad Awards
May 6, 2011
Last night my friend invited me to the International Advertising Awards, so after checking out the recipients’ work headed straight to the food to see what fun things I could shoot. The highlight of the evening was coming across the IKEA Recipe Book. Although it’s written in Swedish, the food styling is some of the best I’ve ever seen, and certainly the most unique. Who would think sticks of butter and sugar could look so great. Aside from that, I had a nice tasting of steak, ravioli, salmon and cute tarts for dessert that were dying to be photographed.
Happy Easter!

For the family easter dinner, I decided to bring a taste of some of my favorite New York desserts from Crumbs, Bouchon Bakery and Jacque Torres.

Café Gitane & Last Week’s Highlights
January 25, 2011
I learned tonight that one of my favorite spots, Café Gitane, tucked into the West Village’s Jane Hotel, not only has a fantastic brunch, but evening menu as well.
And as a side note, in the past week I’ve gone on way to many unplanned dining excursions that I’ve learned to start carting my camera around with me at all times. I apologize for the lack of photos, but these places were too cute to be left unmentioned. Saturday, while making an attempt to go to the popular East Village brunch hang out, The Smith, a typical 2 o’clock crowd was pulling in a 45-minute wait, so we opted to head down the street and found the much quieter, Barrel, which I highly recommend. Seated immediately in what resembles an actual barrel, I ordered a simple eggs and toast, but it was delicious with homemade bread. Although I haven’t tried the rest of the menu, their extensive list of European tapas looks like something I’ll have to go back for.
Other meals from last week I’d recommend include Organic Veal meatballs from The Tangled Vine, the Egg Casserole with spinach, parmesan and smoked bacon from The Mermaid Inn, and of course I made my way back to Kefi yet again to fill my Greek cravings.

Oreo Truffles
December 30, 2010
My cousin’s oreo truffles he made for a family gathering were a huge hit. Simply done, you crush oreos into a bowl, mixing in creme cheese, and then rolling out to balls and dipping in melted chocolate. On to the fun part– drizzling white melted chocolate and powdered sugar to make them look like they’re worth a million.
