Pizza Party

August 27, 2012

It was a pizza kind of Sunday at the apartment. The kitchen was overflowing with fresh ingredients from Whole Foods as three different pizzas were prepped and the neighbors were invited over to enjoy. Option one was your traditional margherita with gluten free crust, tomato sauce, sliced mozzarella and herbs brought back from our trip to Cinque Terre. The second two, also made with a gluten free crust, were vegan friendly. One with pesto, a ricotta tofu vegan cheese, fresh spinach and sliced tomatoes, and another with shredded vegan mozzarella, mushrooms, sautéed spinach and tomato sauce. Bon Appétit!

Tarry Market

June 24, 2011

One of Mario Batali’s many creations, this Euro-style gourmet market in Port Chester has the freshest in pastas, meats, cheese and breads. Crossing off some of our grocery list here last weekend, we grabbed mozzarella and pasta to contribute to the Father’s Day family barbeque at my friend’s parent’s home.

Dinner on the Roof

May 26, 2011

The warm evenings have arrived in the city, and what better way to kickoff the season than putting together this simple, yet delicious vegetarian dish my roommate created for a rooftop dinner. Taking no time at all, you cook whole wheat couscous and combine with an eggplant tapenade sauce and chickpeas. For the side, a spinach, mozzarella and cherry tomato salad.

A Daytrip to Italy

March 13, 2011

Well almost. At least as close as I’ve ever come to Italy without actually hopping on a plane. A few friends and I ventured to Arthur Ave in the Bronx on Saturday. I have heard great things about the authentic food selections available, but have yet to make the trek uptown. And it was well worth it. We quite possibly may have eaten enough in that one afternoon and evening to compensate for an entire week’s worth of food. Hence why this post has an overabundance of photos, I couldn’t bare to leave anything out. After carting back as many bags as possible, we prepared a meal of some of the best cheeses, meats, calamari, pasta and desserts.

Casa Della Mozzarella. After purchasing 2 1/2 pounds of cheese, they gave us more fresh mozzarella in case we couldn't wait until we got home. Amazing,
